Jesus College Peer Support

What is Peer Support?

Sometimes students might not wish to take their problems to a member of staff. Evidence has shown that students are more likely to approach a fellow student for support than a more senior member of staff in the first instance. Our Peer Supporters are student volunteers that are trained by the University to provide an informal and supportive space to talk about any problems (big or small). We offer confidential and non-judgemental support to any student, and can also direct you to relevant resources and services for additional support if we feel it may help.Peer support simply involves talking to us about whatever you like. We have had 24hrs training in non-judgmental, active listening and we're here to help.We listen but do not judge, and in this way we allow you the space to untangle your thoughts and experiences. We acknowledge that it is only you who can decide what to do in a given situation, so we refrain from advice and simply provide you with a safe space to talk. Our service is confidential within peer support guidelines. We will not tell anyone else about what you have told us unless we are concerned someone may harm themselves or others.

Ann-Kathrin Maurer (ANKI)

she/her | 3rd year D-Phil Biology | PG | Disability Diversity Peer SupporterHi, I am Ann-Kathrin (but most people call me Anki), 28, and in my 3rd year of my DPhil. I am originally from Germany but have lived and studied in various countries. Adapting to Oxford and navigating postgraduate life can be tough, and the challenges that DPhils face are often quite different from undergrads or other postgrads. I am normally in Oxford around the whole year, so please also reach out between terms whenever you feel lonely or stressed. I am always happy to meet for a chat, go for a walk or grab a coffee together!
